Shital's-Kitchen: Get to know me!

Get to know me!

A Bombayite (born and brought up in Bombay/Mumbai, India), who as a child, loved to cook with a little kitchen game set. My passion for cooking grew as I helped my mom in kitchen making chapati dough, chopping veggies, making salads and milkshakes. Cooking and entertaining friends is an inspiration from my mom who is a great host!

Another important person to boost my passion and whom I grew up with is my sister. My best friend and a great critic of the food I cooked! She would inspire me and shop veggies so that I could try to create some new recipe in the kitchen. She would stand besides me, while I would cook and talk about my cooking (pretending to have my cooking show). And yes, cannot forget, a clean freak who would clean up after my cooking! Love you sis! She is the one who created this Blog, motivating me to write, and now I am loving it!

Writing about me would be incomplete without my darling hubby.  He not only lets me experiment in kitchen, but is always a part of my experiment. He calls himself me sous chef and he enjoys cooking and eating too.  He critically analysis my cooking and doesn’t give up till I acquire the right taste or texture in the dish.  :)

My cooking and food is inspired by the place I grew up. Simple, quick, easy and fun cooking! I do love to try recipes from the other parts of the world and not just India.  I do not own a fancy professional camera (hint for my dear hubby). So, all my food pictures are as simple as they would be, made at home. Love clicking and uploading step-by-step pictures of all my recipes to make my writing more interesting and fun for you and me!

I am a Science teacher by profession. And, I do like to take my passion to my classroom. Love to talk about food science and teach kids how to make yogurt and cottage cheese and make food and science more fun.  Kids enjoy cooking and they develop love for food they make. I feel it also inculcates good practice for fresh food and nutrition.

When I am not cooking, I like painting terracotta pots and diyas, doing tie dye and learning some new craft.

I enjoy reading feedbacks and comments. If you have any question or comment, do write one. I check my comments often and reply soon. You can just say 'Hi' or even introduce yourself. Would love to know you too.

but seriously you are a great cook.. how ever tired you would be, you were always ready to cook some thing when i asked you to (and the best part is that you would hardly eat any thing since you would be tired of looking at the food)

Its all beacause of you i realized how much i like eating ..

I heard of you from one of my cousin. I wanted to check if you can upload the recipe of patti samosa, the one you get outside Santacruz Station (West). It would be awesome if you can.

  12. Great great site thank you for sharing. May I make a sincere suggestion? I know it might be tough to estimate based on people's cooking skill but can you give a time estimate on "prep" time and "cooking" time with each of your recipes? It would be helpful to ppl in my opinion. Thank you again for sharing your wonderful recipes.
