Buckwheat Crisps with Cucumber Raita Dip

Last week, I made Action Packed Crisps using wheat and soy flour and variety of seeds. Inspired by my same recipe and while I am yet experimenting with buckwheat, I thought of using this healthy and gluten free ingredient here. Also, at this time of the year, many Hindus perform a 10 day fast of Navratri, so this recipe could really be useful now!

Yes, Navratri (which means 9 Nights) Festival and Fast begins today. It is a festival celebrated to commemorate Good over Evil! It is a festival that symbolizes Shakti which means Strength! It is a festival celebrating the Power of Women! Every Indian state and culture has a different way to celebrate the festival of 9 Nights.

In my family we do not fast during Navratri. We perform an Arti (A song in Praise of the Goddess) and sing few Garbas (Folk songs and dance from the state of Gujarat in India). Dandiya, a folk dance using sticks, is enjoyed throughout the festival with colorful clothes and beautiful jewellery. Super fun!! Below is a video of a Gujarati Arti sung for the Goddess!

So here is the recipe that uses healthy flours to make some healthy crisps.
Mix 1 cup rajgira flour, 1 cup kutu flour, salt, 1 tbsp. sesame seeds, 1 tbsp. cumin seeds, pepper powder and red chilli flakes.

Mix ingredients well and make a small well in the center. Pour 1 tsp. oil in the well and mix it well with dry flour.

Using slightly more than 1/2 cup yogurt to make a soft dough.

Divide into equal parts.

Using dry flour, roll out the dough to form a thin puri.
Be careful while rolling the dough. Since it is gluten free, the dough can get brittle. If you are not comfortable rolling the dough, press small portions in between your palm to form a small circular crackers.

Add more sesame seeds, but it is totally optional.

Divide into equal parts. Lift them gently or slide them and place on a greased tray.
Bake in 375 F preheated oven for 10 minutes.

Serve with a dip of your choice or enjoy it as is.
I made this quick cucumber raita dip by addinggrated cucumber to plain low fat yogurt.
Sprinkled salt, cumin powder and red pepper powder.

Wishing Everyone
A Very Happy & Healthy Navratri!
