Tandaljo Soup

Tandaljo or Tandalya is a green leafy vegetable found in India. As all leafy vegetables, tandaljo leaves are high on nutritive value.

This is a winter vegetable, available fresh in India during winter months. We do not find fresh tandaljo in bay area, but is available frozen in Indian Grocery stores.

Tandaljo leaves with nutitious broth and freshly squeezed lime are great to boost immunity in this flu season.

Thaw these frozen leaves. If you find fresh leaves, separate them from the stems, chop and wash well.
In a large container, heat 1 tsp. of ghee, clarified butter. fry 1 green chilly.

Add 1 tsp. turmeric powder and saute tandaljo leaves for 30 secs.

Add 7-8 cups of water and salt and boil/simmer the leaves for 25-30 minutes covered.

Test for salt,
When done, serve hot in a bowl.
Squeeze lime juice directly in the bowl. Vitamin C helps to boost the immune system.

Serve with roti or bhakkri or as it is and stay warm!
