Jeera Rice/ Cumin flavored Basmati Rice

Basmati Rice, long grain and a flavorful variety of rice! Basmati rice is ideal to use in Pulav, Biryani or just Steamed rice with veggies.  Delicious!!

Usually rice needs double amount of water to cook. But for recipes where you need to finish cooking rice in separate pan, I cook them till they are slightly raw. This will prevent rice from over cooking and breaking. Especially, when you use long grain basmati rice, you would want to retain the texture and shape.

Wash 1 cup basmati rice. Add 1 1/2 cup water and microwave for 10 minutes on high.

Add salt to cooked rice and fluff it lightly with a fork to avoid rice grains from breaking.

Slice 1 medium onion.

Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan. Fry 1/2 tbsp. cumin seeds. Saute onions with a pinch of salt to soften.

Add rice and mix well.

Cover and let the rice steam for 5 minutes. Rice complete cooking absorbing cumin and onion flavor.

Serve with Dal/Lentils or Veggies.

Enjoy Steamed Cumin Flavored Basmati Rice!!
