Although, I know bone is not something to be eaten, it is fun to look at! Last week I made these to surprise my non vegetarian friends :)
It was fun the see the kids eat them like they would actually eat a chicken drumstick!
So try this out!
Take 2 cups of finely chopped veggies (onions, bell pepper, cabbage, green beans, carrots, ginger, garlic) Chop then in a food processor or chopper.
Add salt and pepper powder and let it veggies rest and sweat for 15 mins.
Add 1 cup of all purpose flour/maida and 1/4 cup of rice flour and make soft dough.
Take a cup of cornflakes in a zip-lock bag.
Roll them using a rolling pin.
Roughly crush them.
Use some baby corn (fresh or canned) to make chicken drumstick bone :)
Take a spoon full of veggies dough. Immerse a baby corn in the center of the dough.
Wrap the dough well around baby corn leaving a small part of corn as it is.
This is what it should look like! :)
Drumstick ready for frying.
Gently pick each of the drumstick and roll into crushed cornflakes.
Coat it evenly with cornflakes.
Deep fry in hot oil.
Oil should not be extremely hot since it might darken the cornflakes quickly leaving the veggie dough uncooked from inside.
It should take 4-5 minutes to fry and get golden brown.
Blot excess oil on paper towel.
Wrap some foil on the baby corn (bone) :) Serve with chilly sauce, ketchup or schezwan sauce.
Surprise your non vegetarian friends by plating these disguised veggie drumsticks.
If you can, get an empty KFC tub and serve these veggie drumsticks in them for extra fun.
So these were the appetizers I made last week when we had Chole Batara potluck :)
My first experiment with chicken drumsticks in 2007 :)
Can you imagine my parents' reaction when I sent them this picture!
Do not worry about getting messy! Food is all about experimenting and creating!
:) I hope you enjoy it! Happy Cooking!
