Aloo Methi

Methi are fenugreek seeds or leaves. Although fenugreek could be bitter and has strong odour, it tastes delicious in curries and gravies.

Whenever I plan to make potato and fenugreek curry, I grow my own fenugreek leaves at home using seeds. It would take around 10-15 days to grow into tender leaves filled with flavor and nutrition.

Here is the log of my work:
I like to use my strawberry planter :)

Moisten soil and mix it well.

These are fenugreek seeds that I buy from Indian grocery store. These are used in Indian cooking and tempering.

Just spread handful over the soil.

Cover it lightly with soil. Warmth of the soil will help seeds to sprout faster.

Water them regularly.

You can see little radicle/root, sprout from the seeds.

In 2 weeks these leaves were ready to be harvested, just the way I like them :)

I like the use these stems too. They are super tender and flavorful.

Fingerling potatoes, Boiled.

Peal and set them aside.

Saute finely chopped onions in 2 tbsp. oil.

Add chopped tomatoes.

Add a pinch of turmeric, chilli powder and salt. Cook till tomatoes soften.

Add roughly chopped methi/fenugreek leaves.

Add a tbsp. of coriander powder.

I also like to add kasoori methi. Dried fenugreek leaves for added flavor.

Add potatoes. Cover and let them absorb the flavors!

Serve with hot Rotis...
Enjoy!!
