Third day of the Ganesh festival and we were invited for Aarti and delicious Prasad at my friends place. Beautiful idol, wonderful Puja and Aarti followed by delicious Dry fruit milk and Gujarati meal reminded me of the festivities back home.
After a long day at work, I had to make something quick but pretty looking sweet to take with me to the Puja. What better than Modak, another favorite sweet of Lord Ganesh! My mom makes Kaju Modak a lot, it was my turn to try it out.

Here is a quick recipe:
Mix a little less than 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 1/4 cup of milk in a heavy bottom pan. When mixed, heat the mixture and bring it to boil.
Add a cup of powdered raw unsalted cashewnut. Mix well till it turns to a dough and leaves the sides of the pan. Add 1/4 tsp. ghee.
Cool the mixture for 5-6 minutes.
Using a modak mold grease it well with ghee and press a small cashewnut mixture ball in it. Gently open to obtain a cute modak shape.
Remove excess from sides and bottom.
Tried another batch with kesar/ saffron to make Kesar Kaju Modak
Decorate with chopped nuts of edible silver foil.
Let these cool well and set.
Mangal Murti...Morya!
